Image
The Coalition for the Defence of Nigeria Sovereignty, on Friday berated the United States, US, over its stance that the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, is not a terrorist organization. The Coalition insisted that the stance of the US is “highly condemnable in the light of the psychological and emotional trauma that this terrorist group has caused us collectively as a people.” It maintained that, “every single thing that members of this terrorist group have done in recent weeks will lead to jail terms,” in the United States. The President of the coalition, Otunba Bolaji Alabi, made these remarks during a protest march to the US embassy in Lagos. According to Bolaji, “We are here today to protest against something that we know threatens not just our dear country, Nigeria, but also poses a risk to our culture as Yoruba. BIAFRA: Nigeria must use dialogue not military option – US insist

Image
The United States of America, U.S.A, has told Nigeria to look beyond a military option in resolving internal conflicts. The United States Institute for Peace, USIP, made the call in Washington DC when the agency convened a gathering of US officials, diplomats and Nigerian leaders. The event looked at “Peace in Nigeria: How to build it, and America’s role” and possible options beyond military operations were explored. The Acting Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations, U.S Department of State, Thomas Hushek, in his concluding remarks said, “durable peace” in Nigeria “will require a painstaking dialogue.” Nigeria’s military recently went into an open confrontation with members of the pro-Biafra group, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, through“Operation Python Dance” in the Southeast. News:Catalonia referendum campaigning enters final day

Image
Campaigners for Catalan independence are making their final push for support Friday ahead of a referendum Sunday which is fiercely opposed by Spain's central government. A closing rally is due to take place Friday evening in the Montjuic area of Barcelona, the regional capital of Catalonia, a wealthy region in Spain's northeast. Catalonia's separatist government is adamant it will go ahead with the referendum despite the country's highest court barring it on the grounds that it violates the country's constitution. Spain's central government says the referendum is illegal, must not go ahead and that the result will not be recognized. Large numbers of state police officers have been deployed to the region to try to prevent the vote taking place. "We have to make it clear that there will not be a referendum," Spanish Foreign Minister Alfonso Dastis told CNN's Christiane Amanpour from Madrid on Thursday. "Spain does not ...

Update:Trump White House feels heat on Puerto Rico

Image
Puerto Rico and Washington seem farther than 1,500 miles apart right now -- in fact they're experiencing a different version of reality. Nine days after Hurricane Maria ravaged the island, emerging video and news reports of a heartrending humanitarian crisis are jarring with the Trump administration's upbeat assessment of the relief effort. And as the islanders' plight is revealed, the White House risks becoming increasingly exposed politically at a time when it is already being pummeled by a tide of scandal and defeats, including the controversy over Cabinet members using private jets and the latest failed bid to repeal Obamacare. The dire situation, and the reluctance of President Donald Trump to publicly embrace complications in the relief effort, are also raising questions about why the response to Maria seems more sluggish than the government efforts following monster storms that hit Florida and Texas over the last month. The President himself, who did not appear...
