Unai Emery admitted that he did not know whether Mesut Ozil had even attended Arsenal's 4-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur yesterday, as the German midfielder missed out with an apparent back injury. Ozil was not in the Arsenal squad, having missed the trip to Ukraine this week, and it was claimed by Arsenal sources that he had suffered a recurrence of a back spasm. Ozil had missed Arsenal's game at Fulham on October 7 because of a similar complaint. This fresh back spasm had occurred just days after Ozil was left as an unused substitute for the 2-1 win at Bournemouth. Asked repeatedly about Ozil in his post-match press conference at the Emirates, Emery said that Ozil "has back ache" when asked why he could not play. Asked when Ozil suffered this problem, Emery said that he "did not know". Then asked whether Ozil had even attended the game at the Emirates, Emery said he "did not know".
Now focus turns to Arsenal's trip to Old Trafford to play Manchester United on Wednesday night and there will be plenty of interest in whether Ozil recovers from this injury in time to play. Emery said he wants to move on from this win as soon as possible. "Now we are thinking of the match on Wednesday in Manchester," he said. "We know it will be very difficult in Manchester, because of their history and their present, we are going to prepare in the best way possible, to have the best performance against them. It will be difficult, a big challenge for us."
governor of Akwa Ibom State and co-chairman of Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Obong Victor Attah, has warned that Nigeria may break up unless fiscal federalism is instituted. Attah, who spoke on a private radio station in Uyo, the state capital, yesterday, said the only respite Nigeria has against its imminent disintegration would be to return to fiscal federalism as that remains the only solution to myriad of socio-economic problems besetting the nation. “Under a fiscal regime, as it were in the days of the regions, states, would contribute 50 percent of their resources to the central government and use 50 percent for development of their territories, such that multiplier effects would douse 90 percent of tensions in the country.” Attah, who was governor between 1999 and 2017, said Nigeria would have achieved more significant development if true fiscal federalism had been put in place, instead of what is obtained at the moment. The former chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum d...
The Kogi State Governor, Alh. Yahaya Bello has expressed confidence that the performance of President Muhammadu Buhari will guarantee his re-election in 2019, saying the “real voters are behind the President”. Bello stated this in a statement through his Director General of Media and Publicity, Kingsley Fanwo in Lokoja on Sunday. He said the President remains the most popular political figure among the masses of Nigeria. “Two classes determine the electoral success of any candidate in Nigeria. The powerful elites and the masses. In 2015, the masses took over by trooping to the polling units massively to elect Africa’s most popular and most trusted political figure, President Muhammadu Buhari. “Many of us who supported him actually supported his incorruptible and disciplined personality. I founded the Kogi Youth Arise Group with like minds to ensure the victory of the President in Kogi State. President Buhari is a phenomenal leader who truly loves Nigeria. “Almost three years into h...
